The smell of a cat litter box can be overpowering. You know, the kind of smell that is so bad you almost gag to death when you’re cleaning it. Seriously, we’ve all been there. But, I have found a few solutions through some trial and error! For starters, BOTH of my animals have a litter box of sorts.

Louie has a custom pee pad that was made for me when I lived in Manhattan. It is special K9 grass that has holes at the bottom and a tray that can be lifted off. Under the tray, there is a box with cat litter where the urine trickles down to be caught.

Beatrice has the Breeze Box! It’s actually amazing and rarely ever smells! The box has pellets that allow the urine to travel down onto a pee pad that can be changed out once a week. The pellets only need to be changed once a month! I also found ways to troubleshoot the breeze box for cats who are extra picky about their litter! But, thats for another post and review.

Okay back to the point of this post and the review of three products that have helped tremendously with keeping odor at bay. First is Prestige Pet Magic. The Prestige Pet Magic has activated carbon to help eliminate and deodorize cat litter. It is eco-friendly and the odor gets trapped in the pores of the activated carbon. It is also virtually dust free! It is for all cat box and litter box types and is safe for your home. I simply follow the directions and the amount suggested. Then, I mix it into the cat litter.

Now, if you want a stronger and more concentrated product, I highly recommend NonScents Cat Litter Deodorizer. It is described as being fragrance free but I feel it has a slight smell of cleaner– like chlorine from a pool. It is strong and neutralizes litter boxes after just a few sprinkles on top. It is also very natural and safe. However, if you are sensitive to smells, especially chlorine or pool smells, I would get the Prestige Pet Magic instead because that product has ZERO smell to it.

Lastly, I purchased an air purifier to stick to the back of Beatrice’s litter box. It is small, compact and does a great job at keeping a fresh poop smell hidden. I mean, you can’t really HIDE a cat’s poop smell. We all know how potent and strong those suckers can be! But, I’ve noticed with the air purifier it sucks up any initial smell, making the initial cleaning process bearable. I found the product on amazon and it is called SPAZEL  Pet Odor Removers, Smart Sense Home Air Purifier for Cat Dog Pee Odor Deodorizer Device for Bathroom, Kitchen, Pet Litter Box

It is automatic, has a small little filer, and is able to stick to a litter box or wall nearby. It requires 3 triple AAA batteries and can be used for bathrooms, children’s rooms, or even on trashcans. It is very versatile. I personally only use it for the litter box to keep that particular smell neutralized.
